Spirit of the Lakeshore
Kewaunee from the Pottawottami Indians means "we are lost" Chief Simon (noted in history files) explained that often when the Indians were on Lake Michigan they found themselves lost in fog and would call out "Kewaunee- Kewaunee, which led Indians on shore to respond with the sound of their voices helping the wayward Indians find their way home.

The city of Kewaunee is located 25 minutes east of Green Bay with the Kewaunee river being at the mouth of the harbor for Lake Michigan, many boaters call this to be one of the deepest harbors because the Lake Michigan car ferry use to dock and board its passengers and rail cars here for its trip to Michigan.

Kewaunee is also known as one of the greatest fishing communities. Harbor Park is located right at the harbor and is the site for annual festivals including Trout Fest in July. Along Hwy 42 which is right along the shore area shops, fish markets, art galleries, bakery, lodging and Harbor Park to have a picnic on the harbor green. For land travelers Kewaunee is accessible from I-43 to Hwy. 42 (shoreline route) or Hwy. 29 East which will lead you to the historical heart of beautiful Kewaunee.
