Boaters will find the Washburn Marina a convenient location to begin their exploration of Chequamegon Bay and the Apostle Islands. Located, a short walk from the services of the City’s downtown business district, the marina and surrounding area will provide boaters a multitude of services necessary to provide an enjoyable stay.

Located on the Bayfield Peninsula at the southern gateway to the Apostle Islands, Washburn lies in the midst of a four season recreation area. Whether it be summer cruising of the Bay, exploring the historic attributes of the Apostle Islands, diving area shipwrecks, or winter skiing and snowmobiling, Washburn provides a convenient base for exploring the heritage of Wisconsin’s North Coast.

Along Washburn’s waterfront lies the Washburn Municipal Marina, a full service 139 slip recreational boat marina convenient to the community’s business district.

  • Want some exercise? Make arrangements with the South Shore Rowing Center for a rowing shell to provide a close inspection of the area’s rugged shoreline.

  • Spend an entertaining evening at the nationally renowned Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua summer tent show a few miles north of Washburn at Mount Ashwabay.

  • Visit the Washburn Historical Museum and Cultural Center, a renovated multistory brownstone building on our main street displaying the heritage of our past. Visit the indoor and outdoor exhibits of the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center south of Washburn. Tour the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Visitor’s Center in neighboring Bayfield or the LaPointe Historical Museum operated by the Wisconsin State Historical Society.

  • Stop by STAGENORTH , recognized by Discover Wisconsin as one of the state’s "Hidden Treasures" for an evening of entertainment by local and regional artists.

  • Visit the areas numerous galleries and antique shops, many of which are within walking distance of the marina and others within a short drive of the city. If visiting during the early fall, plan on stopping by the many apple orchards of neighboring Bayfield to taste our home grown delicacies.
